WALT:  gather information

Every Wednesday we have been learning about the inquiry process while finding out about art from around the world. The first stage of an inquiry is to gather information - ‘Get It’. First we chose a culture we wanted to find out more about and then started researching.

Evaluation:

1. What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of doing everything on my art.

2. What did you find challenging?

The thing I found challenging was doing the Opera House from australia because I had to get the sizing right.

3.  My next ‘Get It’ goal is?

My next goal is to work on getting a bit more information on my next one.

Maths Sample

WALT: Extend a repeating picture pattern and use number strategies to think ahead.

Description: For maths this term we have been learning a range of strategies to help us solve algebra problems.

Task:  Make a short movie to prove that you have achieved your maths goal.

Criteria:

• Show, explain, prove your goal and how you did it
• Clear message
• Two questions to show your learning
• Correct answer

Evaluation:

1. What are you most proud of and why? 
   I am most proud of working it with Hannah because we could get more ideas down then I would do by myself. So I think we did a really good job doing this together.

2. What challenged you the most and why?
   The thing that challenged me was when we were at home and I was trying to figure out the WALT on the post.

3. Next time, what is a goal you can work towards?
   My time my goal is to get it done faster so I don't need to be in a rush.

Feedback/Feedforward:
What a fantastic effort you and Hannah made in this sample. You explained with great detail. You the answer and why. You know, most people don't do that. Next time you could add 1 more question to top things up. I know you're meant to be doing 2 questions but 3 is a bit better.

Comprehension: Gold bars buried on UK beach

A German artist has hidden£10,000 (nearly $20,000 NZD)  worth of gold bars on a beach in the UK.

Michael Sailstofer said he had hidden the on a beach in Folkestone.

Hundreds of people have started digging for gold which is part of a three month art festival. The organisers say diggers can keep any gold they find.

So far around 3 bars have been found.

But it’s not going to be very easy to find the gold. The artist has buried hundreds of small metal rings called washers to throw gold hunters off the scent.

There are only 30 bars of gold hidden on the beach.

The organisers will never know if the gold has been found or not as they have no way of tracking the small bars.

1. What do you think is the best part of the article?

I think the best part of the article was that Michel sailstofer

hid 10,000 NZD golden bars. So if I was there I would be looking for some.

2. What was the hardest part about completing this portfolio sample?
The hardest part about completing the portfolio sample is doing the questions because that was making me get in the pit when I add to think about it.

3.  Next time, what is a goal you can work towards?
Next time my goal is to work towards getting this done faster.

The Important Thing

WALT: Entertain

Description:  We read a story called “The Important Book” written by Margarent Wise Brown.  We looked at the structure of this writing  and decided to use this to create our own writing. I chose my cat Gonzo because he is starting to shake and getting old. So I chose my cat so I can remember him when he pass's away.

Task:  Choose an object to describe, using the same structure as Margaret Wise Brown in “The Important Book.”

Criteria:

• Brainstorm your ideas describing the object that you have chosen.  Use full sentences.
• Choose the most important thing.
• Make sure that your first sentence and last sentence are the same.
• List the ways you describe your object using a comma to separate your ideas.
• Edit your work for punctuation, ideas and spelling.
  

  

Evaluation:

• What are you most proud of and why?
  Well I am most proud of what I wrote because when Mum and Dad see's this they will think it is really good so that Mum and Dad can remember him like I will, because we love our cat Gonzo. 

• What challenged you the most and why?
  The thing that challenged me was the drawing because I kept on making him on the side but when I finished it it came up really good.

The Learning Pit Portfolio Sample

WALA: The Learning Pit

 Description: We have been learning about when good learning happens.  

Task: Share what you know about the learning pit.

Criteria:

• Draw the Learning Pit.
• List at least 3 feelings that you might have when you are in the pit.
• List at least 3 strategies that you could use to get out of the pit.
• Label where good learning happens.
• List 3 things you could say to yourself when you are in the pit.

Evaluation:

Reflect on a time when you have been in the pit.

• How did you feel when you were in the pit? 
  I felt so frustrated and angry because I could not get it done.
• What did you do to work out of the pit?
  I worked getting out of the pit by not giving up and still kept on trying and I will get there, and I did.

Feedback/Feedforward:
I think you did well with your images it showed a lot of detail and cool colours that match the other colours but I think you should work on your what you do it on because the writing was not that clear.
