5 New Marine Reserves
WALT: Inform
Description:
Today we have learnt about 5 new marine reserves that the government has made. A marine reserve is where all the fish go to make new fish. So you can not fish there.
When hiwi the kiwi was at our school he said if you catch small fish put them back in the sea so they can grow and if they are too big put them back in the sea so they can make their baby's.
We were also learning about hector dolphins. Now if you are wanting to know some facts about the Hector dolphins, keep reading!
Hector dolphins are only found off the coast of New Zealand.
The north island ones are called Maui's dolphins there are only 111 left in the world
The South Island ones are called South Island Hector's and there are only 8000 left in the whole world.
Hector's dolphins are smaller than a normal dolphin and they can fit inside a bath tub. An adult hector dolphin grows to length of 1.2 to 1.4 metres.
To help save the Hector dolphins make sure you put your rubbish away in the bin otherwise the dolphin can get tangled in it or think it is food and eats it, YUK!
If you go fishing remember to be careful of setting up your fishing nets so the Hector dolphin doesn't get caught in the net as well.
So if you see a hector's dolphins take a photo if you dare as they are very rare.

Super Moon
WALT: Inform
Last night the Moon got closer to us than it has ever been. Not all of New Zealand saw it because it was too cloudy in some towns. They even talked about it on the National News because it hasn't happened for many years. So they talked about the moon on the news.
If I saw the moon I would of felt so jumpy and pointing at the moon to Mum and Dad with my mouth open in a surprise. I would have been talking about it to all of my friends. So I wished I had seen it.
We learned that the Moon goes around us, while Earth goes around the sun. It also takes a year to go round the sun but the sun stays in one place, it doesn't move around like the moon and we do. So it takes 365 and 1/4 days going around the sun.
We also learned that there used to be 9 planets now there are 8 because scientists discovered Pluto is just a rock so now there are only 8. So when the moon got closer to us than it has ever been they called it... THE SUPER MOON.

My Hiwi The Kiwi Story
It was another exiting week of school. We were all ready to go. We hoped into the car "Grr Grr!" Went the engine. We raced down the drive way fast like a jet plane. We went up and down the bumbs. "BANG!" when the tyres hit the ground. We had arrived at... school. I saw so many kids crowding something. I wondered what it was. I hangded up my bag. When I came back there were more people. when I came back there were more people. The bell went. Ding Dong! Everyone went to class. We were going to the busy hall. A man was standing on the stage singing songs while people were creeping like mice. He finshed his songs when all the class were in the busy hall.
He intuced himself. " Hello kids I'm Mr Minstrill and this is my wife Mrs Minstrill and she is a good cook too. so give her a clap." The school claps. He said"if you catch a little fish put it back so it can grow, and when you catch a big fish put it back because it might have babies. Then he said " That"s when your on a boat you should be wearing a... Then every body said life jacket! He answered Yes you need to wear a life jacket and in a boat you should have beacon, flares and a fish ruler. also you should use salt water to put the fish in, and fresh."
